PERSOL

An Italian fashion house that specializes in the creation of sunglasses, Persol offers elegant pieces that blend design and technology. Founded in 1917 by Giuseppe Ratti, inventor and photographer, the company initially focused on eyewear for motorsport drivers and pilots. In 1930, the brand became Persol (a contraction of "per il sole", "for the sun"). It was bought in 1995 by the Luxottica group. While male faces of the brand like Steve McQueen may have been principal drivers of its fame, the fashion house has also charmed a female audience — actress Ornella Muti wore the 830 design, and model Carol Alt the 853s. Persol sunglasses are immediately recognizable by their famous arrow-shaped metal hinge and the iconic keyhole bridge that connects the two lenses.
