Le Bon Marché: a place of culture

Le Bon Marché : a place of culture

Acting as a real cultural sponsor, Le Bon Marché is also an exhibition venue and a place of discovery where talents and curiosity for arts meet to create a unique aesthetic experience. Shopping is not the only reason why customers come to Le Bon Marché, they also wander around and take time to admire. (© Carole Benzaken, (Lost) Paradise B, 2006)

The Rive Gauche Collection

In 1875, visionary founder of Le Bon Marché, Aristide Boucicaut, opened a fine arts gallery in store, dedicated to artists and art works that were rejected by the official “Salon de peintures et de sculptures”. He also held musical events, conferences, performances for children arising his clients’ curiosity.

Since 1989, Le Bon Marché continues his action and actively collects contemporary paintings and sculptures. From 2012, La Collection Rive Gauche is completed with pieces of furniture and decorative arts from the XX and XXI centuries. The collection is displayed throughout the store and new artworks are regularly acquired offering an aesthetic and informative experience to visitors.

Le Bon Marché wishes to show the artworks in the store’s different spaces in order to create a daily conversation between its avant-garde heritage and the contemporary challenges of art and creation.

Le Bon Marché offers a global aesthetic experience where fashion and arts mingle along a timeless path.
