The Scandi brands to know
HEADING NORTH WITH THE SCANDI BRANDS TO KNOW
Season after season, Scandinavian fashion is establishing itself as the new benchmark, thanks to popular labels and other ultra-desirable brands.
Not trying to be trendy, but simply upholding an understated and timeless elegance, brands originating from Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo are coming to Le Bon Marché this season. Among them is Baum und Pferdgarten, combining bright and colourful patterns with stylish silhouettes. As well as the emerging brand Mads Nørgaard and Rodebjer with its feminine neoclassical draped dresses.
These new labels join the likes of Ganni, Totême, Samsoe Samsoe and Stine Goya, also available from Le Bon Marché.
Each one has its part to play in reinventing fashion as we know it, whether by embracing minimalism, the oversized, pastel shades or in terms of its environmental commitment.
Baum und Pferdgarten
Longtime collaborators Helle Hestehave and Rikke Baumgarten started their label Baum und Pferdgarten with the intention of making the very clean Scandinavian look more playful and fun. Considered one of the major Danish fashion brands, Baum und Pferdgarten has a timeless, unique and original aesthetic. Featuring contrasting prints, bold colours and sparkle, Baum und Pferdgarten stands out for its quirky collections with an element of irony.
Our favourite features of the spring/summer collection include: feminine Peter Pan collars, puff sleeves, ruffles and quirky prints.
Founded in New York in 1999, Rodebjer is one of the brands most representative of the trend. Carin Rodebjer launched her label after being spotted wearing her designs on the streets of Manhattan. Since then, the brand has become an important benchmark.
Iconic looks include suits, slouchy ensembles, drapey kaftans and kimono dresses.
Strongly inspired by counter-culture and feminism, Rodebjer is about relevant, joyful fashion.
Our favourite features of the spring/summer collection include: the stylish boho-inspired and ruffled pieces.
Passionate about art, design and especially fashion, Mads Nørgaard established her eponymous label in 1986 with the aim of designing understated and timeless pieces that would stay relevant season after season. Mads Nørgaard champions mindful consumption and is committed to making fashion respectful of the environment.
Expect simply cut T-shirts, jumpers and sweatshirts in stylish soft shades.
Our favourite pieces from the spring/summer collection include: those made from organic cotton and head-to-toe looks in bright and cheerful colours, ranging from light purple to sky blue and straw yellow.
Contemporary clothing balancing sophistication and innovation to perfection. The Totême fashion brand was founded by the Swedish couple Elin Kling and Karl Lindman. Figureheads of the Scandinavian fashion scene, warm minimalism imbues their resolutely modern collections of pieces characterised by distinct shapes and pragmatic styling.
Our pick of the spring/summer collection? The oversized 'grandpa' knits.
Founded by Ditte Reffstrup in 2000, the label is so popular with influencers and "it girls" that it really needs no introduction. Mixing gingham and stripes, oversized styles and feminine detailing, the colourful and playful world of Ganni is setting trends. Leopard print skirts, puff sleeve blouses, openwork knits, two-tone cowboy boots, wrap dresses... Ganni has established itself as the stand-out brand of the new Scandinavian style, embraced the world over.
Our favourite features of the spring/summer collection are the silk dresses, square necklines and puff sleeves (an all-important trend this season).
