Combining English tailoring with Nigerian influences, Tokyo James brings bright colors and original design to the masculine wardrobe. Iniye Tokyo James, its eponymous London designer, launched his label in Lagos in 2015 with a desire to bring together traditional tailoring and Nigerian artisanal skills. This designer has an unusual background, having studied mathematics and styling. He hopes his collections will change how people perceive African culture. And although he is helping to slowly change attitudes, Iniye Tokyo James does not want to be in the limelight, he leaves that to his creations. Traditional fabrics are adorned with new weaves, fringes and interesting cuts. The visual impact of Tokyo James' jackets, pants and other pieces comes from their bright colors and bold shapes. The originality of his creations reflect on those for men in general. The jackets, for examples, use unusual prints that turn heads. Tokyo James' brightly colored collections take a new, more modern look at classic streetwear. The pieces draw together different fashion universes, celebrating fashion's diversity.
